Students wrestle with the volume of information, manage deadlines, and often struggle to stay engaged. Traditional communication methods are ineffective, such as emails and reminders within the course learning management system. Students need a more personalized, timely, and engaging form of support. Enter the AI chatbot, Pounce.

The Proposed Solution: An AI-Enhanced Chatbot for Personalized Learning

The AI chatbot, Pounce, was designed with a belief in mind: personalized nudges can significantly improve student engagement and outcomes. Pounce was not just an AI chatbot but a trusted academic companion. It sent text nudges 2-3 times per week, personalized to students' performance. If a student hadn't completed an assignment, Pounce would gently remind them. Upcoming exam? Pounce was there with timely reminders and words of encouragement. Students could even text Pounce back and get a response immediately from the AI or within a day from a human Teaching Assistant.

The impact was even more pronounced among first-generation college students. An impressive 92% of students advocated for Pounce to be used in other courses, showing the positive impact on the student experience.

Implementing a chatbot like Pounce requires an initial investment of time and money, posing a potential challenge for institutions with limited resources.
