The Opportunity

Do you have a vague impression that you no longer belong where you are? Do you have an irrational impulse to start on a journey that will take you to where you want to be? If you are still reading then the answer is a resounding -- yes!

Unfortunately, your personal narrative limits your psychology -- the story you tell yourself why you can't have it.The disempowering story is an intimately familiar friend. He's the one that "affectionately" convinces you, "You're not good enough."

  • You're not good enough, to ask for that raise.
  • You're not good enough, to question your boss.
  • You're not good enough, to apply for that job.

I have felt the pull to go where I want to be for as long as I can remember, but I ignored it. In part because of my fear but mainly because of my anxiety -- the fear of fear, which is the fertile soil for sadness, anger, depression and jealousy. Instead of designing my life I was living it or more specifically reacting to it.

I soon came to realize that you can not allow fear to determine your success. That you must raise your standards. You must demand more from yourself than anyone else will expect. And you must start now. Because success is not built overnight. It is forged one step at a time through concentrated focus and daily action.

Life is about discovering who you are. Why? Because life is better when you look at it as an opportunity instead of an obligation.
