Have you wondered what your purpose is in life? Have you asked a loved one or someone you respect for advice, only to be told to – ”follow your passion?”
Unfortunately, the guidance to ”follow your passion” is shrouded in absurdity. How are you supposed to follow your passion if you have no idea what you are passionate about? Please, don’t start hyperventilating because not knowing is a good starting point. It’s an excellent opportunity to reconnect with your curiosity and the chance to start exploring your possibilities.
I have been a cog in the great industrial machine for over 40 years. A replaceable part in the unremarkably average tribe. Until I stopped.
There was no magical moment. There was no epiphany or ah ha moment. The revelation that I no longer wanted to be a replaceable cog occurred sporadically over a period of time. It was an ugly transition peppered with self-doubt, false starts and an epic number of failures which involved brutal street fights with Resistance – the narrative running in your head telling you “you’re not good enough.”
I was a constant bloody mess… but I refused to quit. As I made incremental gains my narrative changed from “I am not good enough,” to ”What if I don’t try, what dreams will die with me?”
So what plan can I gift to you? I am sorry, but I have no plan for you. If it were that simple everyone would be living life on purpose. What I will do is gift you some wisdom:
- You have to get pissed off at living an unremarkably average life.
- You have to know where you are and where you want to be.
- You have to believe that you can get to where you want to be.
- You have to grow your potential to get to where you want to be.
- And you have to take massive action get to where you want to be.
The tricky part is making the choice to break free. It’s a tough decision but one that must be done if you are to go from where you are to where you want to be. You were born to do more than just the ordinary. You were born to do the extraordinary.
